This week: creative writing and a winter storm

There was a winter storm this past weekend that affected a large portion of the US. The main effects for me were just staying indoors and having remote work days, because our power, water, etc. was all fine. And I came down with an infection, but I expect it to clear up with antibiotics. Also I don't think that was related to the storm.

I'm doing some original and closer-to-original creative writing this week. The remote days help because I can have my work laptop next to my personal computer and write in downtime. I've been writing fanfiction for years, but haven't read many novels since I was much younger, so my writing has stagnated. Been trying to address that lately. As they say, you can only cook what's in the fridge.

I am excited for the new stories, though. I've never been the type of person who makes original characters or does worldbuilding separate from an actual story, so I don't have much in the way of shortcuts to the work of building out the ideas. It'll be interesting if I can get it off the ground. I feel a little bit like I'm jinxing it by mentioning it publicly like this, but hey. Maybe it'll encourage me to blog some updates as I go along.
